Kickin' It Into the Season

As their first scrimmage approaches, the Ayala boys soccer team is preparing itself for its first competitor, Los Osos, during the Thanksgiving break.
Eric Long, the Head Coach, has been teaching the varsity team for three years and occasionally instructs the Junior Varsity team as well. Their rehearsal hours include an athletic sixth period as well as an additional hour after school. Practicing since the second week of August, Long stated this is the “best team he’s had here” and is “hoping they win League.”
The Head Coach’s favorite part of the team is the “excitement of seeing the boys grow and improve, especially the seniors.”
Nelson Orantes, one of the seniors on the Ayala team, has participated in the sport for “all four years of highschool” and enjoys “being with friends and having fun.''
Sophomore Christopher Udo has been playing soccer since he was four and has enjoyed the “sportsmanship” gained from being on the team the past two years. Participating has given him “more friends” and a unique trust and chemistry only a team could have.
Some final advice from Orantes for trying out is “as long as they’re hardworking and motivated, you’ll be fine.” The head coach, however, recommends “you come in shape!”
