The 2020 Golden Globe Awards kicked off on Sunday January 5th as the 77th installment. The award show. which recognizes excellence in film and American television, was hosted by Ricky Gervais once again. The night involved a series of fierce speeches on climate change and women's rights, as well as several digs at social media. On the top of minds for many winners were the Australian bushfires, which have destroyed more than 2,000 homes on the continent's southeastern end.
Memorable moments include Ricky Gervais’ extremely explicit and offensive opening monologue, Russel Crowe’s message about the Australian fires read by Jennifer Aniston, Parasite director Bong Joon Ho’s speech encouraging American audiences to appreciate foreign films more, and Awkwafina making history as the first women of Asian descent to win an award for a lead role in a film among many others.
